I was completely ignorant about 'the quiet one' of the Beatles, until seeing this kaleidascopic film. Scorsese uses never-before-seen footage from George Harrison's childhood to trace his years with The Beatles; through the ups and downs of his solo career and the integration of eastern 'mysticism' that got him through the joys and pain of his private life. The film shows the arc of George's journey from his birth in 1943 to his passing in 2001, with an accumulated wealth of over £100 million, a long tradition of giving via humanitarian work and philanthropy, a creative legacy that included songs such as 'My Sweet Lord' and 'What is Life' and the funding of films such as Life of Brian, Time Bandits and Withnail and I.
