The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) was devised by American Gary Craig, who developed it as a simple and easy-to-learn way for people to overcome phobias and the negative symptoms of distressing memories.
It is based on the premise that all negative emotion is a disruption in the body's energy system. By tapping points on the energy meridiens (as in Chinese medicine, acupuncture, etc) on the body, core issues or 'secrets' stored in the subconscious as limiting beliefs or patterns can be effectively erased. See diagram. This process can sometimes take time, or a healing can happen instantaneously. You may successfully remove one issue, only to find another one underneath. However, the idea is that as you 'tap' though the underlying emotions to the cause you move to becoming a happier and more whole human being. It sounds too good to be true?
I recommend the EFT Manual (EFT: Emotional Freedom Techniques) by Gary Craig as a good starting point, and then Emotional Freedom Technique For Dummies by Helena Fone. There is also a lot of information available online, including www.eftuniverse.com and www.emofree.com.
