Just as men visit the gym to take care of their bodies, many are now following the lead of Brad Pitt and turning to psychics for guidance on life's deeper issues.
Whereas 10 years ago it tended to be women who sought psychic information, I'm surprised how many young professional males are now using psychic services. In the past only women would admit to visiting a psychic yet many male clients seek readings for reasons including business, relationships, career advice, family issues, major life changes - or simple curiosity. Like the female clients, they come from all walks of life, ages and nationalities.
Paul, 28, a construction estimator, agrees: "I had always been reluctant to have a psychic reading due to fear. Yet, at the time of my reading with Amber, I had been encountering a particularly frustrating set of circumstances in my personal and working life. Her reading forewarned me of a number of challenging events but the biggest surprise was the sense of calm that it brought."
Kevin, 39, a personal assistant in a technology sales company, was also initially sceptical. He says: "I feared that seeing a psychic would be waste of time and money and I would still be in the same position as before. I was surprised at how accurate my reading was, about my career, my relationships and my demeanour."
To some visiting a psychic is an integral part of a modern urban lifestyle and it seems that some of the younger generation of working males feel no embarrassment about sharing this information with friends. James, managing director of a London-based event planning, concierge and PR company, says: "I was interested in trying something different and I was intrigued by the experience. I feel confident discussing my visit with friends." William agrees: "Society is less macho now and less judgemental. Psychic advice and healing no longer needs to be whispered about."
Yet the popular misconception that only gullible people seek psychic advice still causes some to hesitate. As Kevin admits: "If I'm honest I wouldn't feel comfortable telling people, especially friends, that I had visited a psychic. In fact I haven't told anyone as I think it's a private affair. Society is changing and is becoming more open to a great many things. However, I still feel that society may look at men seeking psychic advice or healing as being weak or different from the norm."
